Oh how it has rained in the last month. According to morganhillweather.com, we’ve had seven and a half inches since the beginning of January, but it feels more like two feet. I got to wear my galoshes to work for a week straight.
The orchard loves the rain though, and how could you begrudge the green beauties that bring us joy (and food). They’ve been soaking up the water faster than it can fall. Between our pervious pavement in the parking lots and the plants in the orchard, I have not see a single puddle of standing water on The Granary property. That’s a success for Lesley and Charles’ stormwater drainage planning!
The cessation of the rains brought us a beautiful rainbow that stretched from El Toro to The Granary. It was so big we couldn’t get it in a single photo.
The fava beans are blooming like crazy with these gorgeous purple and white clusters. It won’t be long before we are picking beans by the handful and overdosing on delicious fava and feta salads.
Is this why they call us The Golden State? Mustard blooms in swaths across fields all around the valley, and in our orchard too. The bright yellow blossoms add a peppery bite to a plate of tender mixed-greens and cheer up a blah winter day.
I think we’ll be seeing some leaves on this one in the not-too-distant future. What do you think?
If you rush by this bush (late for your lunch date at Mangia la Pizza?) you will miss the delicate unfurling of blushing pink. So be sure to go slow, and thoughtfully.
