Favas with rice hull mulch below are just starting to flower.

It is New Years Eve and I realized that 6 months has passed since I last updated.  It is a bit confusing writing about my two passions, Architecture and Horticulture in the same blog so I am making a New Years resolution to do a better job of blogging and also focus the Green Fava on the horticultural pursuits!  so you will soon see a new blog on Green Architecture with a new name….

Antonio spreading a mixture of manure and rice hulls in the orchard.

This is Antonio, he is shoveling a combination of rice hulls and horse manure that we got free from the local stable.  We have spread it over the entire orchard, it keeps in the moisture, keeps the weeds down and provides a relatively nice clean looking finish under the trees.  The Favas really like it too, they were planted just below the mulch in October, before the first rain!
